Health and Sexuality for Youth with Disabilities: A Workshop for Parents

Location: Tompkins County Human Services Building, Beverly Livesay Conference Room, 320 West State St., Ithaca, NY
Description: For young people with special needs there is a vital need for
guidance on issues of healthy sexuality and personal safety.
This workshop for parents will begin to outline important facets of
educating youth with disabilities on issues of sexuality and the
important role parents play as the primary sexuality educators of
their children.
About our Speaker: Lis Maurer has been a sexuality educator and
consultant for more than 20 years. The American Association of
Sex Educators has designated Maurer a Certified Sexuality
Educator and Counselor. Maurer is the author of two books for
professionals working with people with developmental disabilities:
Positive Approaches: A Sexuality Guide for Teaching
Developmentally Disabled Persons, 1991, which received the
StarLink Award from Planned Parenthood Federation of America,
and Talking Sex! Practical Approaches and Strategies for Working
with People Who have Developmental Disabilities When the Topic
is Sex, 1999. Maurer is an international speaker.
